Description of the Qualification
The AAAIB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts and Skills focuses on the understanding of counselling concepts and the development of counselling skills. This qualification aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to a range of counselling skills and an understanding of the importance of using counselling skills within published ethical frameworks, such as those from the National Counselling Society (NCS), British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
This qualification comprises two mandatory units, Unit1, Counselling Skills and Concepts and Unit 2, Counselling Skills in the Workplace an opportunity for learners to acquire counselling skills in this contexts and is applicable to a wide variety of helping and supporting roles:

Aim of the course
This course is designed for those wishing to learn and to practice a range of counselling skills. For many this is the first step towards becoming a counselling practitioner. This qualification may also be used to launch a long-term personal development plan towards higher qualifications.
What does the course cover?
You will develop knowledge and understanding of the ethos and methodology of counselling and learn to use counselling skills in accordance with the National Counselling Society (NCS) and the BACP’s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy. There will also be an opportunity to develop an insight into some of the issues associated with applying counselling skills in the workplace.
Completion of Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling or equivalent, otherwise there are no specific entry requirements but you must be sufficiently competent in writing and speaking to be able to participate in the course and its assessments. If you have not completed the Level 2 Award in Introduction to Counselling with AAAIB then to ensure suitability for counselling training, all prospective students will require an informal interview prior to enrolment.
Whilst on this course and all our counselling courses, high priority will be given to moral and ethical issues, equal opportunities and the importance of giving and receiving personal sensitive information confidentially and in a non-judgemental way.
Learners may progress onto the AAAIB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Theory, Skills and Ethics to enhance their knowledge of counselling skills and theory. For those wishing to work towards a professional qualification enabling them to work as a counselling practitioner, learners may progress onto the AAAIB Level 4 Diploma in Counselling Practice.
The course can be studied during the day or evening over a 19 week period.
Evening courses Monday, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays 6.00pm – 9.00pm – depending on availability.
Daytime courses subject to sufficient registrations.
How is the course assessed?
By Internal assessment and an external assessed portfolio.
What qualification will I gain?
AAAIB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts and Skills.
The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Concepts and Skills is assessed and awarded at Level 2. Level 1 is equivalent to GCSE grades D to G, whilst a certificate at Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE grades A* to C.
